Day 1 · Cairo

Ahlan wa sahlan! Welcome to Egypt. Your adventure begins in Cairo with a welcome meeting at 4:00 pm, where you’ll meet your tour leader and fellow travellers. If you arrive early, take time to explore the neighbourhood or visit Coptic Cairo, the city’s historic Christian quarter. After the meeting, head out together to explore Khan al-Khalili Bazaar in Islamic Cairo — a famous traditional souk that is a maze of narrow alleys filled with local merchants, offering the perfect introduction to daily Egyptian life.

Day 2 · Cairo – Overnight Train

Travel to Giza, home to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Explore the legendary pyramids, standing for over 4,500 years, and learn about their mysteries with your leader. Enjoy a panoramic view of the three pyramids before visiting the Great Sphinx of Giza. Lunch will be at a local restaurant where you’ll try Koshary, Egypt’s most popular national dish. Afterwards, visit the newly opened Grand Egyptian Museum, housing one of the world’s greatest collections of ancient artefacts. In the evening, board an overnight sleeper train to Aswan.

Day 3 · Aswan

Arrive in Aswan, Egypt’s southernmost city, where the Nile flows peacefully past white-sailed feluccas and Elephantine Island. Today is a free day to explore at your own pace. Optional visits include the Unfinished Obelisk, the High Dam, the Nubian Museum, Philae Temple (dedicated to the goddess Isis), and the Nubian Bazaar. Stroll along the Aswan Corniche and enjoy a relaxing mint tea by the Nile. In the evening, experience modern Nubian culture with a dinner at a local Nubian family’s home.

Day 4 · Aswan

Another free day in Aswan. You may choose to visit Abu Simbel — one of Egypt’s most unforgettable monuments, with four colossal statues of Ramses II guarding the Great Temple carved directly from the mountain on the west bank of the Nile. Alternatively, sail the Nile on a traditional felucca, stopping at Kitchener’s Botanical Garden on the island, or simply relax by the river and shop in local markets. Your leader will be on hand to help arrange any optional excursions.

Day 5 · Nile Felucca

Enjoy a free morning — perhaps visit the Tombs of the Nobles or stock up on snacks for your evening on the Nile. Just before lunch, board your traditional Nile felucca and spend the afternoon sailing peacefully along the river, watching Egyptian daily life unfold on the banks. Your Nubian sailing crew provides all meals and local entertainment. With no cabins, sleep under the stars and watch the sunset across the Nile for a sight you will never forget.

Day 6 · Luxor

Say farewell to your Nubian crew and travel by private vehicle to Luxor, Egypt’s open-air museum. En route, visit either Kom Ombo Temple (with its unique double design dedicated to both Sobek and Horus) or Edfu Temple (one of Egypt’s best-preserved ancient temples). In the afternoon, explore the vast Karnak Temple Complex, one of the greatest religious structures ever built. Also visit Animal Care in Egypt (ACE), an NGO supported by the Intrepid Foundation. The evening is free to relax, shop, or enjoy a local teahouse.

Day 7 · Luxor

Explore the highlights of Ancient Thebes by private minivan. Begin at the iconic Colossi of Memnon, followed by a visit to the Valley of the Kings — where more than 60 pharaohs are buried in richly decorated tombs. Enjoy lunch with a local family, tasting traditional home-cooked Egyptian food. The remainder of the day is free to visit local markets or relax before the journey to the Red Sea.

Day 8 · Hurghada
